OELMA East/Northeast Regions Presents:

OELMA’s FIELD TRIP TO THE MUSEUM-The Snowy Day and the Art of Ezra Jack Keats

Thursday, May 2nd

4:30p.m.- 6:00p.m.

Akron Art Museum : 1 S. High St., Akron

Plan to attend this unique Professional Development-We will take a field trip to The Akron Art Museum and experience the first major exhibition in the U.S. to pay tribute to award-winning author and illustrator Ezra Jack Keats (1916-1983)!

General Information: Get up close and personal with Ezra Jack Keats’s original illustrations of Peter, Louie and other beloved Keats characters as you tour The Snowy Day and the Art of Ezra Jack Keats with Akron Art Museum educators. Explore methods of “reading” pictures with your students and experiment with collage and marbling techniques that Keats utilized in his illustrations.

About the Exhibition: The Snowy Day and the Art of Ezra Jack Keats is the first major exhibition in the U.S. to pay tribute to award-winning author and illustrator Ezra Jack Keats (1916–1983), whose beloved children’s books include Whistle for Willie, Peter’s Chair, and The Snowy Day, published in 1962. The first modern full-color picture book to feature an African-American protagonist, The Snowy Day inspired generations of readers. The exhibition features over 80 original works by the artist, from preliminary sketches to final paintings and collages, including examples of Keats’s most introspective but less-known output inspired by Asian art and poetry. A space in the galleries will be transformed into a reading room inspired by Keats's art and stories for visitors of all ages.

Light snacks and refreshments will be provided by Urban Eats catering. Certificates of attendance will be given for CEUs (1 ½ hours).

The Art Museum needs to have an accurate count of attendees-therefore all payments with registration form need to be submitted via mail to OELMA by April 25th, 2013. *NO PAYMENTS WILL BE TAKEN AT THE DOOR.
